Dover Street Market Ginza is the Tokyo incarnation of fashion conglomerate Comme des Garcons’ multi-brand ‘department’ store concept that originated in London. It features several levels of luxury Japanese and international fashion brands, all housed in unique and inventive ‘concept’ zones.
Across the floors you’ll find departments housing Comme des Garcons’ multiple labels, Louis Vuitton, Nike, Moncler, Loewe, Gucci, Undercover, Prada, Balenciaga, Sacai, JW Anderson and Aesop, plus many other brands.
The building also features lots of contemporary art throughout. A highlight is the ‘elephant room’, a space at the store’s ground level shopfront. It houses a full-size elephant sculpture that a changing roster of artists and designers exhibit in.
On the top floor is Rose Bakery, an understated café serving light meals and bakery goods. Cookbooks are available to buy and take home if you enjoy the food. The rooftop, meanwhile, features a grassy space with a small shrine that is worth checking out.
Dover Street Market Ginza closes twice a year to have its fitout refreshed. The concept shops and installations are changed or updated during the shutdown, so its worth going back to each visit as there’s always something new and interesting to see.
As an added bonus, a sky bridge connects Dover Street Market Ginza to the Uniqlo flagship store across the street.
