A trip to Tokyo isn’t complete without a browse through a Don Quijote store. While there are outlets across the city, the 24-hour store on the edge of Kabukicho in Shinjuku is the one to experience.
‘Donki’ as it’s known by the locals, is a multi-level discount store, with narrow, labyrinthine aisles packed to the rafters with an insanely diverse range of products. There’s also an equally insane volume of customers dodging their way around each other along the aisles and up and down the stairwells.
At Don Quijote you’ll find everything from toiletries, hair and beauty products, food, alcohol, luggage and costumes to local souvenirs, electronics and luxury goods. There’s even a section of ‘adult’ products sitting up in plain sight beside everything else. With so much on offer and tax-free shopping storewide, it’s a challenge to walk out empty-handed.
If the hectic crowds and clutter are too much for you, check out one of the other 50 outlets dotted across Tokyo for a more laid-back browse.
