Mister Donut

Posted on

A trip to Tokyo isn’t complete without a sugary pit-stop at Mister Donut. It’s a donut chain that has become a Japanese favourite since being imported from the USA in the 1970’s. While the franchise has all but died out in America, it has thrived in Japan. There are now over 1100 stores nationwide.

Offering both dine-in or take-out or both, depending on the store, Mister Donut offers a wide range of donut styles and flavours. These include traditional ‘Pon-de-Ring’ donuts, mini donuts called ‘Donut Pops’ and ‘French Crueller’ varieties, among others.

Mister Donut also offers limited edition and seasonal varieties at various times of the year, including sakura-flavoured donuts during cherry blossom season. They sometimes also stock donuts shaped like cute Japanese character faces.

There is limited English signage in the stores, but with the donuts displayed in glass cases at the counter it’s easy enough to point to what you want.

The Shinjuku outlet (address details below) on the edge of the Kabukicho district is a local landmark and worth stopping by for a treat if you’re in the area.
