Yebisu Garden Place is an expansive raised commercial and entertainment precinct. It’s connected to Ebisu Station via a series of travelators that carry you across the streets below and into a large paved plaza featuring a number of notable attractions.
Built on the former site of the Yebisu brewery, which was established in 1890, the precinct includes the The Westin Tokyo Hotel, which serves a delicious afternoon dessert buffet and the Museum of Yebisu Beer, which commemorates the site’s history.
There’s also a Mitsukoshi department store and the TOP Museum, an excellent multi-level gallery dedicated to photographic art. It hosts both a permanent collection and multiple temporary exhibitions across the year. It also has an excellent bookshop.
Another drawcard at Yebisu Garden Place is the huge outdoor atrium plaza that is the centrepiece of the development. Covered by a gigantic arched glass canopy, the area hosts seasonal events throughout the year, including markets and food festivals. Each Christmas, the precinct is lit up for the season and a huge Baccarat crystal chandelier is installed to draw the crowds.
At the far end of the plaza is perhaps the most bizarre aspect of Yebisu Garden Place – a full-scale replica French chateau that houses the pricey Michelin-starred Le Restaurant de Joël Robuchon. See it to believe it!
