The Museum of Contemporary Art, located in Kiba Park in eastern Tokyo, is one of Japan’s largest contemporary art museums. It’s housed in a low-rise architecturally impressive structure that features lots of concrete, glass and geometric shapes. The museum completed a major renovation in 2019 to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
The museum, or ‘MOT’ as it is known, displays an impressive permanent collection which focuses mainly on post-war local and international art. It also mounts regular temporary exhibitions by solo artists and in the fields of art, architecture, cinema, design, fashion and popular culture.
The Museum of Contemporary Art also houses a shop, café, family-friendly restaurant and an Art Library with 270,000 books and reference materials.
