BEAMS is a fashion retailer that has been serving up on-trend fashion and goods in Japan for more than 40 years. Their flagship store BEAMS Japan, in the heart of the Shinjuku shopping district, is well worth a browse through. It has a wide, eclectic range of goods on offer across multiple floors, which are all uniquely themed and merchandised. The curated range includes fashion, shoes, homewares, art, traditional crafts, vintage electronics and books, among other things.
It’s worth seeking out the Japanese cultural goods and BEAMS-brand merchandise on the ground floor, which make for great souvenirs. The range includes everything from fans to charms to teapots to sake jugs. There’s also goods featuring the BEAMS logo including mugs, key rings and t-shirts, plus the brand’s signature kewpie doll.
The store also has a gallery that hosts regular exhibitions and events, mainly featuring Japanese art.
If you’re feeling hungry, there’s a basement restaurant called CRAFT Grill, that serves Western food with a Japanese twist alongside an extensive drinks menu centred on craft beers. For something lighter, there’s also a ground floor cafe serving specialist coffee, including the store’s own ‘Japan Blend’ and Japanese sweets.
