Number Sugar is a boutique confectionary company specialising in delicious handmade caramels. They come in ten flavours, with each flavour corresponding to a number – hence the brand name.
While they have a shopfront in the Omotesando area, it’s much more interesting to visit their small factory in the backstreets of Sendagaya where you can watch the staff making the caramels in a spotless, laboratory-like kitchen. The walk to and from the factory is an adventure in itself, winding through quiet neighbourhood streets with residences and the occasional shop.
The Number Sugar factory has a small shop attached where you can purchase either individually-wrapped caramels or pre-boxed selections. The flavours of the chewy, creamy caramels include vanilla, salt, chocolate, raspberry and ginger, so it’s worth trying them all!
